The phone call came at about 2 PM. Surgery has been scheduled for Monday at 10:30. I need to be there by 7:30. I am feeling amazingly calm with less than 72 hours left.
A Minority of Two
October 27, 2009About 40 of us were gathered yesterday at the Hospital for Special Surgery for a 90-minute patient education session. Only two of us were scheduled for a resurfacing. The rest were having traditional hip replacement.
Many–probably most–of the patients were not resurfacing candidates, given their age and physical condition. But there were several younger patients who seemed eligible.
Resurfacing, I guess, is still a niche.
Ready, Set, Cut
October 26, 2009Just back from nearly a full day of patient education, extraction of bodily fluids, X-rays, and EKGs at the Hospital for Special Surgery and a nearby doctor.
The hospital has its act together, moving patients swiftly through a series of visits to labs, class rooms, and doctor’s offices.
Any idea of how much a private room goes for? Something like $800, $900 for a river view. For an extra $800, you get a private nurse, too. Only in New York.
