A whole slew of research papers on hip resurfacing. The die has been cast on my hip. It is in place, and–God willing–it is not coming out anytime soon, so I have not looked at the research closely. But here is my prediction. Both sides will see what they want to see in the findings.

For what it’s worth, I am happy with my new hip.


Resurfacing: Less Pain, Greater Health

The following article excerpt of a recent study suggests that resurfacing patients have less pain and greater general health one year after surgery than replacement patients. The results are adjusted for age, sex, and the presence of other conditions.


Successful but Technically Demanding

I am not a big fan of delving into the research into hip resurfacing. In 13 days, I will be operated on by Dr. Su, who is one of the leading practitioners of the surgery, and I trust him.

I do, however, glance at the research, and this piece caught my eye because it was written by surgeons who have been resurfacing for a long time.

Ongoing Research

The Washington Health Care Authority is conducting a technology assessment of  hip resurfacing. A public comment period is open until this Friday.
